BANGALY BANGOURA was born in Conakry, Guinea.
Bangaly started his journey as djembe soloist at the age of 10 with his brother, renown drummer Fode Bangoura. He continued to hone his craft with Group Yole and Les Ballets Sourakhata led by Tosale Keita. At 19, Bangaly joined Guinea’s most prominent percussion group, Les Percussions de Guinée Juniors (Boca Juniors). In 2008, artistic director Hamidou Bangoura invited him to join acclaimed dance company Les Ballets Africains. Since then, Bangaly has been enchanting audiences in Lybia, China, Algeria, France and West Africa.
One of the most sought after djemple players in Guinea, he has performed with high caliber artists Mory Kante and Jimmy Kouyate. He regularly tours with Guinean famous griots Sekouba Kandia Kouyate, Djelikani Fanta Diabate, Sona Tata Conde, Abraham Sonti and has graced the stage with Malian singers Soumela Kanoute and Aliou Sam. A polyvalent musician and composer, he masters the duns, sangba. bolon, krin and n’goni and has arranged for Guinea’s prominent artists Sara, Dibrilla Souma and more. Some of his recording credits include Moussa N’Tanga Camara’s ‘Sabou Youma vol 1’ and ‘Dembagnouma’, the DVD ‘Benkadi Woroko’ for Japan-based Karamoko Camara, Sekouba Kandia Kouyate’s ‘Kanya Denke’, Sona Tata Conde and Tigui Diabate’s ‘Son Fo’. Bangaly has also appeared on Guinean popular TV programs 'Star Vacances' and 'Toumbi'. He regularly teaches workshops to local and international students in his hometown Conakry.
